Arts Centers
Amazing Things Art Center, a fabulous community art center, led by visionary Michael Moran.
Emerson Umbrella, a great venue with a terrific Monday-night open-mike hosted by Ellen Schmidt and Jake Kensinger.
TCAN, a great weekly open-mike hosted alternately by Phil & Trisha Knudsen and Mark Stepakoff.
Books & Journals
Parabola is a fantastic magazine about myth, tradition, and the search for meaning.
Kulupi Press publish books "with a sense of place," including poetry, place-lore, and recently a great book on writing. They also published "The Harp-Boat"!
CD Sellers
CD Baby carries the best independent music.
Folklore & Mythology
Goblin Fruit is an exciting quarterly journal of poetry and images drawn from folklore and mythology. Edgy, ravishing, and very cool!
The Endicott Studio is a treasure-trove of mythic poetry, essays, images, reading suggestions, and links.
Sur La Lune offers tellings, re-tellings, and analysis of some of the best-loved fairy-tales. It is an amazingly generous labor of love by Heidi Anne Heiner.
Musicians, Storytellers & Poets
Matt Heaton played bodhrán and guitar on Kate's CD.
Ellen Schmidt, along with Jake Kensinger, hosts a number of open-mikes around the Boston area. She is a wonderful singer and songwriter, a generous host, and a kind friend: well-worth checking out!
Valerie Thompson is a brilliant cellist who records, teaches, and collaborates with many musicians.
Craig Werth: A brilliant, funny, gifted songwriter, singer, instrumentalist, and friend.
Check out The Muses, a Colorado-based Celtic group with great zest and an enticing range of instruments at their disposal.
Lynne Cullen is a brilliant storyteller and runs the Seanchai Nights storytelling series in Portland, Maine.
Libby Franck is a mesmerizing storyteller and a dear friend.
Trisha and Phil Knudsen make music together, host the TCAN open-mike, and write poems and songs. Lovely people!
Oen Kennedy is one of my favorite musicians and human beings. (Except when he's being a bird, which comes naturally to him...). Fabulous!
Deborah Rocha has a voice I've often described as champagne bubbles that tickle my brain! Her wildly original songs and swinging takes on Brazilian music are intoxicating.
Cynthia Chatis is a beautiful flute-player, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and artist. She is also a beloved friend.

Writers
Swan Tower, the website of Marie Brennan/Bryn Neuenschwander, writer and academic. Bryn was a student of mine years ago, and I'm so impressed by all she has accomplished since then!
Writer and artist Ruth Gendler is the author of my all-time favorite book (and that's saying a lot!): "The Book of Qualities."
