Appointments are processed highest appointment down. You may attempt to apply for as many as you like in one month, but you only get one attempt at each. Once you have an appointment, you are automatically withdrawn from competition for all further ones. You may only hold one appointment at a time. Fencing instructors are treated slightly differently from other appointments (see section 10.?)

Most appointments are now held for a period of twelve months from when they are appointed (rather than being cleared in September). The exception are Army and Division Commanders and Adjutants, and Army QMGs, which become are cleared in March when the new army structure comes in.

If a post becomes vacant unexpectedly (either by death, resignation or the incumbent being offered a better post) then unless a PC has applied for it that month (usually by asking the incumbent to resign), it will remain vacant for one month to allow PCs time to apply for it.

If you want an appointment then you must apply for it (unless there are no NPCs at all who can get it, which is fairly rare). If the post is appointed by the person holding another post (for example a Brigade Major being appointed by a Brigadier) and this post is vacant, then no appointment will be made: the application does not count as a failed application.

If you are successfully appointed to a post, you may not apply for the same post again during the original tenure of the post (you can't resign and then reapply). If you apply for a post unsuccessfully then applications for the same post will be ignored by an NPC for three months (or twelve for ministerial jobs).

Once a post has appeared in the Vacant Appointments listing it must be filled the following month if possible. The precedence list for appointments is:

PCs are not obliged to accept an appointment if they already hold a better one (earlier in the appointments table). NPCs will not do so.

If you fail to satisfy the minimum requirements for the appointment (drop below the minimum SL, leave the regiment in the case of regimental adjutants, let your rank drop to below the minimum) then the character will lose it. Note, however, that if you are an Aide, and the person your are an Aide to is promoted, then your appointment will be upgraded to the new level and you will not lose it if your SL or army rank is too low.

8.1 Extra benefits

All appointments give the bearer extra SPs and/or increased influence (See tables). Some appointments bring extra benefits and duties (the full details are in the rulebook):

Note that cases of treason (arrested by the CPS) are judged by the MoS. When the MoS is a PC, he can decide to fine, banish or execute the accused.

Cases of embezzlement are judged by the MoJ (only).

Cases of breaches of Military Law are judged by a Court Martial...

8.2 Change to embezzling rules

The Min. of Finance chooses a die roll, D, from 2 to 12, and two dice are rolled against it. If you roll D or more, you've got away with it and get the amount listed below. If you roll from D-1 to D-4, then you get 100%, 75%, 50% or 25% respectively, but the Minister of Justice gets to hear about it, and may either take it further or shut up about it. An NPC MoJ will shut up on a 7 on 1d6 (may be influenced). If you roll D-5 or worse, you get nothing, and it gets out anyway. You lose your job and are put on trial at the start of the following month, and executed on a 7 or more on 2d6 (you may influence the King on this).

Amounts are:
2 100 8 10000
3 1000 9 15000
4 2000 10 20000
5 3000 11 30000
6 5000 12 40000
7 8000

The PMG rules may be changed soon in a similar way.

The QMG rules will remain unchanged.
